Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the Himachal Pradesh government will launch a decisive, statewide campaign to completely eradicate the menace of Chitta (synthetic drugs) starting November 15, 2025.
Presiding over a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister said the campaign will begin with a state-level “Anti-Chitta Rally” from the Ridge to Chaura Maidan in Shimla, where MLAs, dignitaries, students, volunteers, and citizens from all walks of life will participate. The drive will continue for three months, focusing on awareness, prevention, and strict action against the Chitta mafia.
CM Sukhu stated that he will personally monitor the campaign at the state level. He directed all government departments, police, and volunteers to work in a coordinated manner to make the initiative a success. Special emphasis will be placed on drug prevention awareness programs across educational institutions and public spaces.
To strengthen enforcement, Anti-Chitta rallies will be organized at the district and sub-divisional levels, and a special cell will be created within the police department to tackle the drug problem. The police have already identified panchayats most affected by Chitta, and targeted interventions will be implemented there. Anti-Chitta volunteers will also be trained in colleges to support awareness and monitoring efforts.
The Chief Minister further announced the formation of Drug Prevention Committees at the panchayat level, each comprising seven members, including a chairperson. These committees will hold monthly meetings, prepare detailed reports on drug-related activities, and coordinate closely with law enforcement agencies. They will also conduct awareness programs in schools and public places to educate people about the dangers of drug abuse.
CM Sukhu emphasized that these committees will play a pivotal role in curbing the illegal drug trade and ensuring the state becomes Chitta-free from the grassroots level.
