In a major push towards eco-friendly mobility, Himachal Pradesh is set to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure with the development of charging stations across the state. The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has received approval for setting up e-charging stations at 53 locations to support the operation of 327 electric buses.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri announced that out of 90 surveyed sites, 46 have been finalized, with 34 marked as priority locations. These priority charging stations will be established in key towns and transport hubs, including Shimla, Theog, Dharamshala, Palampur, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, Manali, Chamba, and Lahaul-Spiti, among others.

To fund this green transport initiative, the State Government has sanctioned ₹20 crore, supplemented by financial assistance of ₹110.95 crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

“The state is taking a leading role in promoting e-mobility,” said Agnihotri. “This project not only protects the environment but also opens doors for job creation and infrastructure growth.”

The project will be executed in two phases. The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited will handle the installation of transformers, while civil works will be carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Bus Stands Management & Development Authority (HP BSM&DA).

Agnihotri emphasized that the charging network will significantly improve public transport connectivity in both urban and rural areas, positioning Himachal Pradesh as a model state for sustainable mobility in India.
