Himachal Will Lead in Education in Coming Years: CM Sukhu

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while addressing students at the inter-college event ‘Eruption-2025’ at Government Dental College, Shimla, expressed his vision to make Himachal Pradesh the leading state in education in the coming years. Reflecting on his student days, the CM encouraged students to prepare for real-life challenges with dedication and integrity.

The Chief Minister shared that he came from a humble background and studied in a government school. Since taking office, he has worked toward systemic reforms despite inheriting a debt of ₹75,000 crore and pending liabilities of ₹10,000 crore related to state employees.

Education Reforms Highlighted:

  • Himachal’s rank improved from 21st to 5th in national education rankings.

  • 1,000 schools merged for better resource allocation.

  • English medium introduced from Class 1.

  • Teachers and meritorious students sent abroad for exposure.

  • A Directorate of School Education was established.

  • 10 Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools to be operational from next year.

Healthcare Investment Announced:

The CM also announced that ₹1,100 crore will be invested to upgrade state medical colleges, including:

  • Robotic surgery units

  • PET Scan and 3-Tesla MRI machines

  • Equipment on par with AIIMS

These improvements are expected to be visible within a year.

Stipend Hike for Medical and Dental Students:

The government has already increased the stipend for MD doctors from ₹60,000 to ₹1,00,000, with similar benefits extended to super-speciality doctors. The CM confirmed that dental MD students will also see a hike shortly.

Focus on Financial Prudence:

Sukhu criticized the previous government for fiscal mismanagement and emphasized his government’s commitment to responsible spending and efficient development.

Support for Orphaned Children:

Health Minister Col. (Dr.) Dhani Ram Shandil praised the government for declaring orphans as “Children of the State,” making Himachal the first state to grant legal rights to orphaned children. He added that events like Eruption-2025 empower youth by giving them a platform to showcase their talents.

He also announced ₹5 lakh as an appreciation grant for students who participated in the cultural performances.

The event was attended by MLA Harish Janartha, Principal Dr. Ashu Bharti, college staff, and students.
