Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the proposed revision of textbooks for Classes 6 to 8, with discussions focused on incorporating comprehensive content related to Himachal Pradesh’s geography, history, society, folk traditions, economy and political system.

The Minister said the updated textbooks would present students with informative and engaging material covering Himachal Pradesh’s journey from ancient times to the formation of the State. The revised curriculum will also highlight the State’s diverse dialects, traditional cuisine, freedom fighters, Kargil heroes, contributions of soldiers, economic structure, political framework and contemporary issues shaping Himachal’s identity.

Rohit Thakur informed that the factual content and educational material would be finalized within a month to ensure timely publication of the revised books. The new textbooks are expected to be introduced in schools from the academic session 2027-28.

He said that providing students with authentic knowledge about Himachal Pradesh’s heritage and development would encourage critical thinking, strengthen their understanding of the State’s culture and history, and inspire further learning. The updated curriculum would also support students preparing for competitive examinations in the future.

The Education Minister added that a committee under his chairmanship has been formed to oversee the review and improvement of the curriculum for Classes 6, 7 and 8. The committee, comprising the Secretary Education, representatives from the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Assistant Professors and other experts, is conducting regular meetings to ensure the timely completion and implementation of the revised textbooks.
