Town & Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani, while chairing a review meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA), underscored the need to integrate innovation and sustainability into urban development across the state. He emphasized the adoption of modern, technology-driven practices to meet the evolving demands of urbanization and enhance the efficiency of HIMUDA’s operations.
Highlighting the state government’s commitment to planned and eco-conscious development, Dharmani said that future urban projects must balance growth with environmental preservation. “Sustainable urban planning is not only a necessity but a responsibility,” he stated, directing officials to implement green initiatives and ensure time-bound completion of all ongoing projects.
The Minister announced the introduction of an online system to expedite the resolution of project-related issues and proposed incentives to bolster youth-led initiatives and start-ups in the urban development sector. He also encouraged HIMUDA to establish a dedicated fund to support start-ups and expand apprenticeship opportunities.
Dharmani reiterated HIMUDA’s commitment to providing affordable, quality housing while considering Himachal’s ecological sensitivity and vulnerability to natural disasters. He proposed the development of theme-based colonies to enhance the appeal of HIMUDA’s residential projects.
Providing project updates, he said the first phase of the Mountain City Project at Jathia Devi is progressing steadily and will help decongest Shimla. He also highlighted the upcoming multi-purpose building in Vikasnagar, envisioned as one of Shimla’s most modern infrastructures. Emphasis is being placed on green and eco-friendly designs in all future construction.
HIMUDA Vice-Chairman Yashwant Chhajta, CEO and Secretary Dr. Surender Kumar Vashisht, and other senior officials were present during the review meeting.
