CM Sukhu announced that the Himachal Pradesh government is considering restoring the Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) for specialist medical officers. Presiding over a Health Department review meeting, the Chief Minister underscored the state’s drive to build a world-class healthcare network and address critical staff shortages across all government medical colleges.
To tackle rising cancer rates, the state will invest ₹800 crore into upgrading specialized oncology facilities. An expert committee will be formed to draft a strategic roadmap for these cancer care centers. Furthermore, the government is procuring cutting-edge diagnostic equipment on par with AIIMS Delhi to improve patient outcomes locally.
In an effort to adopt global medical standards, the government plans to send medical students and faculty on international exposure visits. Looking ahead, Himachal Pradesh also aims to integrate advanced, next-generation medical treatments—such as gene and molecular therapy—into the state’s public healthcare sector.
