In a major crackdown under Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s flagship ‘Anti-Chitta Campaign’, the Himachal Pradesh Police has dealt a heavy financial blow to the illicit drug trade. In a decisive action, Police District Nurpur successfully forfeited illegally acquired assets valued at ₹48,30,997 belonging to a habitual offender detained under the PIT-NDPS Act.
The offender, a resident of Village Sirat (Tehsil Indora, Kangra District), was intercepted at a Bhadraya checkpoint under Damtal Police Station in July 2023, where officers seized 10.1 grams of heroin (chitta) and ₹8,500 in cash. Having previously been booked in two separate NDPS cases in 2022 involving heroin recoveries, his persistent involvement prompted authorities to initiate preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act.
Going beyond mere arrests, Nurpur Police launched a deep financial probe into his wealth, uncovering illegally accumulated movable and immovable properties. Following a freezing order issued in June 2025 and subsequent confirmation by the competent authority, the assets—comprising a residential property in Village Channi valued at ₹45.90 lakh and ₹2.40 lakh in cash proceeds—were officially forfeited to the state government.
A police spokesperson emphasized that the Anti-Chitta Campaign aims not just to seize narcotics, but to dismantle the entire economic engine driving the drug mafia. HP Police reiterated their resolve to purge the state of narcotics and urged citizens to report illicit drug activities to help safeguard the youth.
