The Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), in collaboration with Rotary Club Shimla Hill Queens, successfully organised a Blood Donation and Organ Donation Awareness Camp on the university campus today. The camp was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Rajendra Verma.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students, all coming forward in support of the noble cause. A total of 50 units of blood were collected by the Blood Bank team from Kamla Nehru Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Kanchan Singh.
In a significant initiative, Mr. Naresh, Coordinator of the State Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organisation (SOTTO), conducted an awareness campaign to educate participants on the importance of organ donation. Setting a powerful example, Prof. Verma and his wife Dr. Renu pledged to donate their organs. Inspired by their gesture, many students also came forward to make their organ donation pledges.
In a heartwarming act of humanity, two university students, Akshit and Gaurav, responded to an emergency call from IGMC Shimla and donated fresh blood for a dengue patient in need of platelet transfusion. A special vehicle from IGMC Blood Bank was dispatched to collect the students for this lifesaving effort.
Professor Mamta Mukta, Dean Students’ Welfare, along with Rtn. Puja Goyal, President, and Rtn. Maala Singh, Immediate Past President of Rotary Club Shimla Hill Queens, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all blood donors and organ pledge volunteers for their compassion and contribution.
