Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, claimed the North Zone Men’s Basketball Championship title after registering a hard-fought 42–38 victory over Panjab University, Chandigarh in the final held at DAV College’s sports ground in Kangra.
The championship featured teams from 85 universities across the North Zone, turning the event into a showcase of intense competition and high-quality basketball. The title clash proved to be a closely contested affair, with both finalists putting up a spirited performance. Calm execution in the decisive moments helped HPU Shimla pull ahead and secure the coveted trophy.
Earlier, Punjabi University, Patiala sealed third place with an emphatic 78–35 win against Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, dominating the match from start to finish.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by chief guest Ajay Verma, in the presence of DAV College Kangra Principal Dr Baljeet Singh Patial, competition observer Prof Rakesh Verma, and HPU Director of Physical Education Prof Sanjay Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest appealed to the players to adopt sports as a healthy lifestyle choice and stay away from drugs, noting that sports play a vital role in shaping discipline, fitness, and character among youth. He also applauded Dr Patial’s leadership and lauded DAV College Kangra for the smooth and successful organisation of the tournament.
During the ceremony, trophies and certificates were awarded to the top three teams. The organisers extended their thanks to the officials, referees, coaches, volunteers, and participating universities for their cooperation, which ensured the championship concluded on a successful note.
