IIAS Celebrates 59th Foundation Day with Week-Long Cultural Events

The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) commenced its week-long celebrations marking its 59th Foundation Day on 16th October 2024. A vibrant cultural program was organized at the Institute’s Pool Theatre.

The program began with a welcome address by Professor J. K. Roy, Fellow at IIAS. Following this, Professor Priyanka Vaidya introduced former Fellow and the event’s chief guest, Dr. Usha Bande. In her speech, Dr. Bande shared her cherished memories of the Institute and extended her best wishes.

The cultural program featured several musical performances, including a Raveendra Sangeet singing by Dr. Trisha Paul and a solo song by Dr. Joginder Saklani. Additionally, a play based on Saadat Hasan Manto’s renowned work “Toba Tek Singh” was performed by Dr. Gajendra Bhardwaj and a group of associates. Dr. Hemant Pal Ghritlahare then presented a Chhattisgarhi folk song.

The event concluded with a presidential address by Secretary Mehar Chand Negi, who appreciated the active participation of Fellows, Associates, and staff members. He emphasized the importance of such cultural events in fostering camaraderie and creativity within the Institute. The vote of thanks was delivered by Sales and Public Relations Officer Akhilesh Pathak.

As part of the week-long celebrations, the following events are scheduled:

  • 17th October 2024: Another cultural evening.
  • 18th October 2024: A special blood donation camp at the Pool Theatre from 11:00 AM in collaboration with IGMC Shimla Blood Bank.
  • 20th October 2024 (Sunday): The formal closing ceremony of the Foundation Day week will be presided over by the Director Prof. Raghvendra Prasad Tiwari, followed by a tree plantation in the Institute’s premises.
