Bishop Cotton School celebrated the 78th Independence Day with Chief Guest, Manpreet Vohra. Welcomed by a guard of honour from the school’s NCC contingent, Vohra oversaw the hoisting of the flag on the highest flagpole in Himachal (106 ft) whilst the school brass band joyfully played the Indian national anthem.

In an excellent and well-received address to the boys in a special Chapel service, Vohra, former Indian High Commissioner to Australia and Deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan, highlighted the challenges facing the nation as it develops as a world economic power. An alumnus of St Edwards, Vohra also spoke warmly of the rivalry between his alma mater and BCS.  As a schoolboy he remembered how impressed he had been with the smart turnout of Cottonians on the Mall and their fierce competitiveness on the sports pitch.

Bishop Cotton School is an institution rooted in history and tradition, founded 1859. The school is celebrating 165 years of Educational Excellence. Over decades, its alumni have included some of the most distinguished men in India and elsewhere. From the uniformed services to administrators, from businessmen and industrialists, to authors and actors, Bishop Cotton School has nurtured nascent talents and helped them come to fruition. This is a school that provides a child with a firm foundation to look capably and confidently to a global role in the years to come.
