Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, on Tuesday launched the Green Hydrogen Certification Portal of India (GHCI) during a national workshop on strengthening the National Green Hydrogen Mission, organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
The new portal aims to ensure transparent certification and regulatory compliance under India’s Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme, marking a key step in building a structured and accountable hydrogen ecosystem.
Addressing the workshop themed “Strengthening the National Green Hydrogen Mission: Through State Policies, Hubs & Infrastructure”, Joshi called on states to accelerate policy adoption. He said six states have already notified dedicated green hydrogen policies, while seven others have integrated hydrogen frameworks into existing energy and industrial policies, with four more in progress.
Highlighting industrial progress, the Minister said incentives have been extended to 15 companies to develop 3,000 MW per annum of domestic electrolyser manufacturing capacity, reducing import dependence.
He noted that contracts have been awarded for supplying 30,000 MTPA of green hydrogen to major oil refineries including IOCL, BPCL, HPCL and NRL. In the steel sector, ₹84 crore has been sanctioned for pilot projects on 100% hydrogen injection.
On clean mobility, Joshi said ₹208 crore has been allocated for 37 hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and nine refuelling stations, along with ₹193.35 crore invested in seven national testing facilities.
The Minister also highlighted a ₹113 crore R&D roadmap supporting 21 projects and said standards for green ammonia and green methanol have been finalised, strengthening the regulatory framework.
He added that agreements have been signed for the supply of 6.7 lakh MTPA of green ammonia to 11 fertiliser plants, reducing import dependence in the fertiliser sector.
Joshi said the National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023 with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore, aims to create 5 MMT production capacity, supported by 125 GW of renewable energy, attracting over ₹8 lakh crore investment, generating 6 lakh jobs and cutting 50 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Under the SIGHT programme, incentives have been awarded for 8,62,000 MTPA production capacity, while ₹100 crore has been earmarked for startups, with initial funding approved for nine startups worth ₹22 crore.
The workshop formed part of the government’s 12-year celebration of decisive governance, showcasing India’s progress in clean energy transition and industrial decarbonisation.
