The Government of India has stepped up measures to address evolving developments in West Asia, focusing on energy security, maritime operations, and the safety of Indian nationals in the region. Proactive steps are being taken to maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies, facilitate alternative energy options, and safeguard critical sectors.
Domestic LPG deliveries continue to operate normally, and panic bookings have significantly reduced. To support key sectors, commercial LPG allocations to States have been increased, with hospitals, educational institutions, restaurants, and industrial canteens given priority. States have also been urged to expedite new PNG connections for domestic and commercial consumers. Refineries are functioning at full capacity, maintaining sufficient stocks of crude, petrol, diesel, and LPG. Alternate fuel sources such as kerosene and coal are also being supplied to ease pressure on LPG demand.
Raids to curb LPG hoarding and black marketing are ongoing, with over 3,500 operations conducted across multiple States/UTs, resulting in the seizure of more than 1,200 cylinders. PSU Oil Marketing Companies continue surprise inspections at over 1,800 retail outlets and distributorships to ensure smooth fuel availability and prevent malpractice.
Port operations across India remain smooth, with no reported congestion. Indian seafarers in the western Persian Gulf are safe, and 22 Indian-flagged vessels carrying 611 nationals are being closely monitored. DG Shipping, in coordination with shipowners, agencies, and Indian Missions, maintains a 24×7 control system to ensure operational continuity and the safety of Indian sailors.
The Ministry of External Affairs continues to monitor the region closely, prioritising the security and welfare of Indian citizens. Over 3.5 lakh Indians have returned from the Gulf since February 28, with special flights operating from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Airspace restrictions in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq are being managed via alternate routes. Six Indian nationals have died, and one remains missing; the government is coordinating for the prompt repatriation of mortal remains.
The government has reiterated its commitment to energy stability, uninterrupted maritime trade, and citizen safety, while urging the public to rely on official sources, avoid panic buying, and adopt responsible fuel consumption practices.
