S wonderful! ‘S marvelous!
That you should care for me!

– Ira Gershwin

As a young man, lyricist Ira Gershwin worked in a Turkish bath and for a carnival. His younger brother, George, encouraged him to try his hand at songwriting, and the two soon became a duo who composed classics of the American songbook like “I Got Rhythm,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” and “‘S Wonderful.” Gershwin was born 117 years ago.
