The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the 422 MW Kishau Multipurpose Hydro Project is likely to be signed shortly between the partner states and the Government of India in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ahead of the signing, the Centre has circulated the draft MoU to the participating states for their comments.
CM Sukhu on Tuesday reviewed the draft agreement in a high-level meeting and directed officials to ensure that Himachal Pradesh’s rights and interests remain fully protected. He said the state government is committed to implementing the project while safeguarding the interests of the people.
The Chief Minister said the revised agreement, based on the state’s recommendations, ensures Himachal will receive nearly Rs. 600 crore annually without any capital investment. He added that the state has also secured rights over 378 million cubic metres of water in the Yamuna basin, while all partner states will receive their legitimate share of power and water.
Describing the agreement as a major achievement, Sukhu said the government has resolved the eight-year-old issue of Himachal’s financial contribution, saving the state from investing nearly Rs. 800 crore. He also said efforts are underway to secure the state’s long-pending 13,066 million units of electricity arrears from BBMB projects.
