CM Sukhu virtually inaugurated a new Fire Station at Nerwa in the Shimla district, reaffirming the state’s focus on expanding essential services in rural regions. Extending his greetings to local residents, the Chief Minister emphasized that the facility will handle fire incidents as well as support disaster relief and rescue missions during landslides, torrential rains, and other natural calamities.
Serving nearly 55,000 residents across the Nerwa belt, the station will soon be equipped with two fire trucks. The establishment of this local unit will allow swift intervention to safeguard traditional timber houses, local businesses, and lucrative apple orchards.
Previously, fire crews had to travel long distances from Chopal, Deha, Theog, or Shimla, resulting in multi-hour delays during crises. A dedicated local station eliminates these delays, guaranteeing rapid emergency intervention.
To ensure efficient operation, 17 positions have been created for the Nerwa Fire Station alongside the sanctioning of two new fire trucks. Additionally, the Fire Services Department has dispatched a Type-B water tender purchased for ₹59 lakh, significantly reinforcing the area’s safety network.
Underlining broader rural initiatives, CM Sukhu stated that the administration aims to deliver city-grade amenities to village communities while strengthening the rural market. Plans are moving forward to build a regional milk processing plant, with Forest Conservation Act (FCA) clearances currently in progress.
Administrative access is also receiving a boost: ₹3 crore has been allocated for the Chopal Mini Secretariat, with an additional ₹2 crore each dedicated to the Nerwa and Kupvi Mini Secretariats to bring multiple public services together under a single roof.
