The Department of Digital Technologies and Governance in Himachal Pradesh announced that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, has released a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) aimed at preventing and controlling the circulation of Non-Consensual Intimate Imagery (NCII) under the IT Rules, 2021.

According to the department spokesperson, NCII includes any content that reveals private parts, depicts partial or full nudity, shows sexual acts, or involves morphed images of individuals. Such material is considered a grave violation of personal privacy and dignity.

To assist victims, especially women, authorities have established multiple reporting channels. Affected individuals can seek help at nearby One Stop Centres (OSCs) or report content directly on social media platforms using in-app complaint tools, including the “report/abuse” option, or by contacting designated grievance officers.

Incidents can also be reported through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in), which offers integrated support for reporting online abuse. Additionally, complaints can be lodged via the cybercrime helpline number 1930 for prompt assistance.

Victims are further advised to file complaints at the nearest police station or approach law enforcement agencies to initiate legal proceedings.

The spokesperson added that if intermediaries fail to respond within the stipulated time or if complainants are dissatisfied with the action taken, they may appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) at www.gac.gov.in.

Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant, refrain from sharing harmful content, and report instances of NCII promptly to safeguard individual dignity and ensure online safety.
