To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, management of Auckland House Boys Schools, initiated action by organizing a well-planned seminar and an exhibition to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse. The resource person engaged for the morning was Dr Gopal Ashish Sharma, District Program Officer, from the Dept of Health & Family Welfare, CMO Office, Shimla, whose interactive ways kept the little ones attentive and eager to learn.

The key message was clear — One should never ever ever try any drug even once in his/her adolescence age.

This is one addiction that needs to be avoided at any cost. Breaking it into simple terms Dr Sharma took examples from daily life to explain to the children about the effects that these drugs have on our brains and how with time they completely destroy us as an individual. The thrill that comes with taking any substances will last for few minutes only but the damage it does destroys the person completely. (CLICK TO SEE ALL VIDEOS)

Keeping the kids engaged, Dr Sharma put forth important questions which were deftly answered by the children and inturn the kids stepped up by asking few questions themselves, such as – “Why do adults take drug”, “Why does the Central Government diesn’t ban drugs, “What is the difference between these drugs and medicinal drugs”, and many more such important questions.

The seminar ended on a positive note as Dr Sharma advised the kids to stay focused and have the power to say no.

Thereafter, Dr Sharma, accompanied with the School Principal Micheal A John and teachers viewed the exhibition where the children had beautifully expressed and voiced their views against drug abuse.

More than 100 Auckland Boys and Girls also participated in the Walk Against Drug Abuse that was held in the morning in the City, spreading the message – Say No To Drugs.
