Monal Public Sr. Sec. School, Shimla hosted a remarkable student-curated exhibition, “The Golden Karwaan,” at the historic Gaiety Tavern Hall, Shimla—a vibrant journey through India’s knowledge traditions, cultural heritage, innovation and its timeless connections with the wider world.
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Chief Guests Abhishek Trivedi, DGP (Prisons & Correctional Services, H.P.), and Satwant Atwal Trivedi, DGP & Commandant, Home Guards, Civil Defence, Fire Services & SDRF (H.P.). The dignitaries appreciated the students not merely for the impressive physical displays, but for the thought, purpose and learning embedded in every creation. The idea of The Golden Karwaan beautifully resonates with the spirit of William Dalrymple’s The Golden Road—a reminder that ancient India was not an isolated civilisation, but a vibrant centre of knowledge, ideas, culture, science, mathematics, art and commerce, with these influences travelling far beyond its borders along the great routes that connected the East and West.
In this spirit, the students created their own “golden road”—tracing journeys of knowledge and human ingenuity through Indian knowledge systems, historical narratives, Himachali chevron patterns, mathematics, the evolution of communication and the many ways people and ideas have connected across time and geography.
The Chief Guests emphasised that the thought behind the display matters more than the display itself. They highlighted two powerful lessons reflected in the exhibition: hard work and resilience, and the importance of recycling and responsible use of resources. By encouraging children to minimise waste, reuse materials and draw upon the wisdom of earlier generations, the school is nurturing habits of sustainability and respect for both heritage and the environment. The hands-on learning methodology was particularly appreciated. When students create, construct, explain and narrate concepts themselves, learning moves beyond textbooks and becomes an experience—one that builds confidence, strengthens understanding and makes knowledge memorable.
More importantly, School Principal Sangeeta Sharma shared that, “The Golden Karwaan celebrated the idea that knowledge travels, cultures meet, and humanity grows through exchange. Its underlying message echoed the timeless Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ — the world is one family.”
The Chief Guests applauded the school management, teachers and articulate student narrators for their meticulous preparation and attention to detail. The exhibition ultimately emerged as more than an academic presentation—it was a journey from India’s past to its future, celebrating knowledge, creativity, sustainability, cultural heritage and human connection.
Adding a meaningful social dimension, proceeds from the students’ creations were dedicated to supporting cancer patients and their families, making the Golden Karwaan a journey not only of knowledge, but also of compassion and service.
