The thought-provoking play Mukkadama was staged today at the historic Gaiety Theatre by Emotions Globe Art Theatre, blending satire with contemporary ideas in a compelling performance. Directed by Adhiraj, the play featured a dynamic trio — Adhiraj himself, along with Prem Kumar and Priyanshu Adhitya — who infused the stage with wit, energy and nuance.

The narrative centres on a man who walks into a courtroom and claims he has killed God. What follows is a sharply satirical courtroom drama where the accused demands punishment, prompting a series of humorous yet deeply reflective exchanges. As the plot progresses, it is revealed that the “God” in question symbolizes not a divine being, but a false construct — an exploitative figure created by society to serve interests of profit and power. At its core, Mukkadama conveys a powerful message: the protagonist, though calling himself an atheist, is actually a believer in humanity, truth, and unity.
The chemistry among the performers was palpable. Adhiraj shone in his dual role as director and the judge, effortlessly switching between gravitas and levity. Prem Kumar delivered a compelling portrayal of the self-proclaimed killer, while Priyanshu Adhitya added sharpness and control in the role of the lawyer, both complementing the narrative with strong performances.
The audience responded with enthusiastic laughter and applause, captivated by crisp dialogue, well-paced scenes, and engaging storytelling. However, the ending felt slightly rushed. A more deliberate conclusion might have given the play’s powerful themes a deeper emotional resonance.
Nonetheless, Mukkadama stood out as a refreshing blend of humor and philosophy — a bold piece of theatre that entertained while subtly challenging blind faith and societal constructs.
