The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of Himachal Pradesh, under the aegis of the Directorate of Women and Child Development, will organize the State-Level International Women’s Day celebration on March 8, 2026, at Nahan. The event aims to reinforce the commitment towards women’s rights, dignity, and empowerment across the state.
A spokesperson of the department informed here today that nearly 10,000 women from different parts of Himachal Pradesh are expected to participate in the programme. Participants will include Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, members of Mahila Mandals, and elected representatives from Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies.
He added that Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, will attend the event as the Chief Guest.
The celebration will acknowledge the historical struggles, achievements, and invaluable contributions of women in society while promoting gender equality and empowerment in key areas such as education, health, nutrition, economic self-reliance, and safety.
The state-level programme in Nahan will also feature departmental exhibitions and special stalls displaying products prepared by women self-help groups. These stalls will highlight the entrepreneurial skills of women and provide new market opportunities for locally produced goods.
The event will be held in connection with International Women’s Day, which is observed globally every year on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievements and advocate for gender equality.
