Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), functioning under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, organised a Women Youth Parliament at Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi, centred on the theme “Nari Shakti: Viksit Bharat ki Awaaz – Strengthening Inclusive Democracy.” The event began with the rendition of Vande Mataram, creating a patriotic and motivating atmosphere.
The programme was attended by Chief Guest Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment. In his address, he spoke about the powerful role women play in Parliament and how India’s democratic system has enabled women to reach top constitutional positions, including the Presidency. He emphasized that inclusive governance is essential for national development. Highlighting the upcoming special parliamentary session from 16 to 18 April on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, he described it as a landmark reform aimed at increasing women’s representation in legislatures and advancing the vision of a developed and inclusive India.
Vijender Gupta, Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, also addressed the gathering, noting that women are central to nation-building. He stressed that greater participation of women in politics leads to more inclusive and responsive policymaking, and called for stronger involvement of women in leadership and decision-making roles to ensure balanced and progressive societal growth.
The event reflected the Government’s continued focus on women’s empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Women Youth Parliament served as an interactive platform for women to share their perspectives, understand democratic practices, and engage in meaningful policy discussions.
More than 500 women participated in the programme. Among them, 37 young representatives from Delhi and Uttarakhand took part in a structured Mock Youth Parliament, representing different ministries. They shared their views on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, highlighting the importance of women’s leadership and inclusive governance. The event was also attended by Nitesh Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports; Dr. Priyanka Shukla, CEO of MY Bharat; and Prof. Simrit Kaur, Principal of Shri Ram College of Commerce.
During the mock session, participants simulated parliamentary proceedings, expressed their viewpoints effectively, and voiced collective support for enhancing women’s representation in governance. The initiative helped build confidence, leadership qualities, public speaking skills, and civic awareness among young women.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Priyanka Shukla proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all dignitaries and participants in making the event successful.
Overall, the Women Youth Parliament emerged as a powerful platform for elevating women’s voices and reaffirmed their vital role in shaping a Viksit Bharat.
