The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare will observe a nationwide “Fire Safety Week” from May 4 to 10, 2026, in collaboration with all States, Union Territories, and relevant central ministries, to strengthen fire prevention and preparedness in healthcare institutions.
The week-long programme will be formally inaugurated on May 4 at Kartavya Bhawan under the leadership of Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava. At the inaugural event, a fire safety pledge will be administered, reaffirming the commitment of all stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with fire safety norms and build a culture of preparedness across hospitals and health facilities.
Throughout the week, States and UTs will conduct awareness drives, mock drills, training programmes, and capacity-building exercises focused on fire prevention, emergency response, and evacuation protocols. These initiatives aim to sensitise healthcare workers and administrators about safety standards and crisis management.
The Ministry said the initiative reflects its continued focus on protecting patients, healthcare staff, and critical infrastructure by strengthening fire safety systems across the country’s healthcare network.
