The Ministry of Women and Child Development celebrated a major step toward inclusive regional development with the inauguration of a new Regional Centre of the Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD) in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on July 4, 2025. The Centre was inaugurated by Union Minister Annpurna Devi, who emphasized that empowering women and nurturing children is foundational to nation-building.

Strategically located to serve Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal, the Ranchi Centre aims to decentralize capacity building, support flagship government missions like Mission Shakti, Mission Vatsalya, and Poshan 2.0, and train a new generation of professionals—from social workers to researchers and policymakers—equipped to drive grassroots transformation.

The event also marked the unveiling of the Institute’s new logo, representing its renewed vision. The transformation from NIPCCD to SPNIWCD reflects a shift towards a more inclusive and women-centric development agenda, inspired by the legacy of Savitribai Phule.

Dignitaries including MoS Savitri Thakur, MoS Sanjay Seth, and MLA Navin Jaiswal highlighted the centre’s potential to boost field-level implementation and innovation in the sector. A new Advanced Diploma Course in Child Guidance and Counselling, upgraded training modules, and regionally tailored programmes will further improve frontline services.

Previously reliant on distant centres in Guwahati and Lucknow, states in eastern India now have a dedicated hub closer to home—significantly improving logistical access and training reach. The new Ranchi centre reaffirms the Government’s commitment to inclusive, regionally grounded, and transformative development in women and child welfare.
