A coordination meeting was held today between the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Himachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (HPSACS) to accelerate efforts toward eliminating vertical (mother-to-child) transmission of HIV and syphilis in the state. The meeting, chaired by NHM Mission Director Pradeep Kumar, aimed to strengthen inter-departmental collaboration for early detection and timely intervention in expectant mothers.
Key focus areas included ensuring universal screening of all pregnant women—particularly at health facilities—and devising strategies to reach those who deliver at home. Emphasis was also placed on enhancing information, education, and communication (IEC) initiatives to raise public awareness about prevention and care.
Speaking at the meeting, Pradeep Kumar highlighted that coordinated efforts between NHM, HPSACS, and allied departments could make a significant impact in reducing vertical transmission rates. “Ensuring timely screening and support for every pregnant woman will be a vital step toward the long-term goal of preventing HIV and syphilis in Himachal Pradesh,” he stated.
Rajeev Kumar, Project Director of HPSACS, also participated in the meeting and reaffirmed the society’s commitment to joint efforts aimed at achieving zero vertical transmission in the state.
