Orchid Prep School Celebrates Janmashtami with Traditional Gaiety

The little kids of Orchid Prep School, New Shimla, celebrated the festival of Janmashtami with traditional gaiety and fervour on 22nd August, 2014. The guests for the occasion were Vipin Gupta from Inner Wheel Club Vikasnagar and Satya Sood from Inner Wheel Club Midterm. The entire school was decorated with leaves, flowers and different images of God Krishna to bring out the essence of Gokul, where Lord Krishna was brought up.

Nearly 40 students participated in the event. All the boys were dressed up as little Krishna and the girls looked beautiful in Radha’s attire. The tiny tots stole the show with their outstanding performance during the Janmashtami celebrations. Dressed as Radha, the girls performed dandiya on the song Mein Toh Bhool Chali Babul Ka Desh. In order to make the kids understand about the festival in a better manner, an activity of colouring Krishna and Makti also took place. In addition to the various activities, the kids also participated in a fun games organised for them by the school principal and the staff. The very popular breaking of Dahi Handi took place amidst a lot of enthusiasm.

The guests congratulated the children and staff on their excellent performance. The prizes for best dressed Krishna and Radha were sponsored by the Inner Wheel Club. The winners of the competition were Best Dressed Radha: First Ananya Bisht; Second Shradhaa; Third – Kamya; Best Dressed Krishna: First – Naveet Karan; Second – Sashwat; Third – Vivan Garg and Aarav. The winners of the game were Hitesh and Ananya.

Principal Neelam Vij addressed the gathering and encouraged her students to follow the path of truth, honesty, shun evil and embody the strengths and qualities of Lord Krishna. On being asked about the importance of celebrating festivals in the school she said, “It is difficult to make such young kids understand the true meaning of Janmashtami but by making efforts like decorating the school, indulging them in activities, dressing them up as Krishna and Radha, leaves an impact. Through story telling we try to make them understand the entire concept of the festival. Whatever they learn at this age stays with them forever and we aim at making them understand the importance of our traditions and rich culture”.

The day ended with distributions of sweet and dance by the little ones !!!
