Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has called for Himachal Pradesh to receive its rightful share of water and power resources, emphasizing the state’s pivotal role in hydropower generation and natural water supply. Speaking at the inauguration of a multi-storey parking facility in Sector 5, New Shimla, the Chief Minister posed a compelling question: “What has Himachal gained despite producing 12,000 MW of electricity?”


CM Highlights State’s Contribution, Demands Fair Share
While states like Punjab and Haryana dispute water sharing, Himachal remains the source, yet the benefits, the CM stated, are not proportionally returned. He pointed out that SJVNL has grown into a ₹6,700 crore enterprise, largely due to Himachal’s resources, but the returns to the state remain minimal.
New Infrastructure Inaugurated in Shimla


The CM inaugurated a ₹18 crore parking facility accommodating over 50 vehicles in Sector 5. He also announced:
- ₹50 lakh for another parking facility
- A Community Center
- A Primary Health Centre for the area
He reminisced about his childhood in Sector 5 and his personal and political journey that began in the locality.
Bold Economic Reforms Amid Financial Crisis
Addressing the state’s financial challenges, Sukhu revealed that his government inherited a debt of ₹75,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore in pending dues to government employees. Through transparent governance, ₹2,500 crore in additional revenue has been generated without a single corruption charge.
