Pedal to Progress: Global Cyclist Somen Debnath Meets Governor

Internationally acclaimed cyclist and social activist Somen Debnath paid a courtesy call on Governor Kavinder Gupta at Lok Bhavan today.

During the meeting, Debnath briefed the Governor on his extraordinary 19-year global cycling expedition spanning 191 countries across all seven continents. He shared that the journey aims to spread awareness on key social issues while promoting Indian culture and core values worldwide.

He also provided details on his ongoing year-long nationwide campaign, ‘Reunion Bharat – One Tree, One Life, Indian Youth and Sports.’ Spanning 28 states and 5 Union Territories, the initiative focuses on fostering national integration, environmental preservation, youth empowerment, and sports culture.

Commending Debnath’s feat, the Governor described it as a rare example of human endurance, discipline, and purpose. He noted that the expedition truly reflects the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,’ reinforcing the values of unity, national service, and environmental responsibility among the youth.

To honor his outstanding contribution and encourage the successful completion of his campaign, the Governor presented a sum of ₹51,000 from Lok Bhavan. Extending his warm wishes, the Governor expressed confidence that Debnath’s journey would continue to motivate young people across the country.
