In a heartfelt ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, conferred the National Florence Nightingale Awards 2025 upon 15 distinguished nursing professionals from across the country. These awards recognize their exceptional dedication to public health, community welfare, and commitment to the nursing profession.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, J P Nadda, along with Ministers of State Prataprao Jadhav and Anupriya Patel, were present on the occasion to honour the awardees.
Congratulating the recipients, Nadda stated, “This recognition reflects your unwavering service to humanity. Our nurses form the backbone of India’s healthcare system, saving countless lives each day.”
Instituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Florence Nightingale Award is presented to Registered Nurses, Midwives, ANMs, and LHVs serving in various government and voluntary health sectors. The award includes a Certificate of Merit, ₹1,00,000 cash prize, and a medal, symbolizing the nation’s gratitude for their service.

The awards ceremony also underscored the Government of India’s focus on strengthening the nursing sector. Under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Act has been passed to modernize education and regulation. Moreover, 157 new nursing colleges are being established alongside medical institutions, aiming to ensure a well-trained and empowered nursing workforce for a stronger healthcare system.
