Project Director, State AIDS Control Society, Himachal Pradesh, Rajeev Kumar today here informed that a two-day training programme was conducted from 28th  to 29th  March, 2025 to strengthen healthcare services in prisons by enhancing the capacity of medical personnel in tackling infectious diseases.

He said that the training was organized in collaboration with Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT). It was aimed at equipping medical officers, pharmacists and lab technicians from all 14 prisons in the state with essential knowledge on the screening, treatment and control of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis (TB) and hepatitis.

Rajiv Kumar said that timely screening and medical care for all inmates are important for the early detection of infections. With prompt treatment these infections can be effectively managed and cured. He said that achieving the ’95:95:95′ targets in combating HIV/AIDS, TB and STI infections are possible only through comprehensive and uninterrupted screening and healthcare services within prisons.

He said that the ’95-95-95′ targets were adopted by India and the United Nations with the goal of ending AIDS by 2030. This initiative focuses on ensuring that 95 percent of people living with HIV are aware of their status, 95 percent of those diagnosed receive treatment and 95 percent of those on treatment achieve viral suppression.

He said that regular health check-ups are already being done in all prisons. He asked the officials to be strict about it and ensure that every inmate is screened properly so that no one is left out of medical care.
