The 11th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Raj Bhavan, Shimla, where a special yoga session was organized today. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and actively participated in the yoga exercises alongside other attendees. He extended warm wishes to the people of Himachal Pradesh on this globally significant occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Shukla emphasized the importance of yoga in fostering physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. He described yoga as a timeless gift from Indian sages that goes beyond physical fitness, offering harmony between body, mind, and soul.

The Governor traced the origins of yoga to Lord Shiva, revered as the Adiyogi, and acknowledged Maharishi Patanjali for systematizing this ancient discipline. He also praised Prime Minister Modi’s global efforts in promoting yoga, noting how his initiative led to the United Nations declaring 21st June as International Yoga Day, giving global recognition to India’s cultural heritage.

Dispelling common myths, Governor Shukla clarified that yoga is not tied to any religion but is a universal practice that supports holistic health and inner awareness. He said, “Yoga is not just physical exercise, but a path to consciousness and harmony with nature.”

He urged citizens to adopt yoga as a lifestyle to improve personal health and social well-being. He also highlighted yoga’s potential role in addressing issues like substance abuse and promoting collective responsibility in preserving the natural beauty of Himachal Pradesh.

The yoga session was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Satya Prakash Pathak from the Department of Yoga, HPU. Officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, along with yoga practitioners and students, participated with great zeal.

Secretary to the Governor, C.P. Verma, and other officials also took part in the session, making the celebration a meaningful and inspiring event.
