Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has emphasized that the immediate restoration of water supply and irrigation schemes is a top priority for the state government following the recent spell of heavy rains and landslides that severely disrupted normal life across Himachal Pradesh.

As the Minister in charge of the Jal Shakti Department, Agnihotri revealed that 3,698 schemes have been damaged due to the extreme weather, including 2,786 drinking water supply schemes, 733 irrigation schemes, and 41 sewerage projects. The total estimated damage currently stands at over ₹240 crore.

Responding to the crisis, the Deputy CM has directed the department to carry out restoration work on a war footing, with drinking water and sewerage services being treated as the highest priority to provide immediate relief to the public.

So far, 1,591 drinking water schemes have been temporarily restored, significantly alleviating hardship in the affected areas. Technical teams and departmental staff are working around the clock to ensure that the remaining schemes are reinstated as quickly as possible.

“The government is fully committed to supporting the people during this difficult time. The Jal Shakti department is deploying all resources to restore essential services. Our focus remains on public welfare and swift relief,” said Agnihotri.
