CM Sukhu virtually inaugurated the robotic surgery facility at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda, Kangra, from Chandigarh on Friday. The state-of-the-art facility has been established at a cost of ₹30 crore. The Chief Minister was scheduled to attend the inauguration in person, but inclement weather prevented his helicopter from landing at Tanda.

The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure through cutting-edge medical technologies. He noted that a similar robotic surgery facility has already been launched at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialty, Chamiyana (Shimla).

Highlighting the government’s focus on health and education sectors, Sukhu announced that B.Sc. Nursing seats at RPGMC Tanda would be increased to 60. He also shared plans to install a PET scan machine at Tanda soon, eliminating the need for patients to travel out of state for this diagnostic service. Emergency departments in medical colleges across the state will also be strengthened.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister said that robotic surgery units would be rolled out in medical colleges at Hamirpur, Chamba, Nerchowk, and Nahan in a phased manner. To support this expansion, 150–200 paramedical staff will be appointed and 50 new posts for Operation Theatre Radiographers will be created. Additionally, performance-based incentives will be introduced for doctors showing excellence in their respective fields.

The inaugural event at RPGMC Tanda was attended by Health Minister Col. (Dr.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, and several senior officials and MLAs. Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania accompanied the Chief Minister in Chandigarh during the virtual inauguration.
