Creativity is best seen when children are given the freedom to fly with their imagination, and SAGES (Shimla Amateur Garden and Environment Society) made the right decision this year when they held a Flower Festival for the City School Students in Gaiety Hall. The event had six items in which the children had to showcase their imagination and ingenuity. These were Flower Arrangement; Toys with Fruits, Vegetables and Flowers; Rangoli with Flower Petals; Flower Vase Making; Identify the Flower and Photo Display. The best part of this festival was that there was no competition. The only prize that will be given would be a Sages Running Trophy to the school that identifies the maximum number of flowers.
For each event, the students were given clear-cut instructions before hand. Excitement galored as students made their items. The Hall was abuzz with their faint chatter as they made their presentations with a free mind. The Rangoli of flowers depicted various colours of life, from lord ganesha to a peacock or the map of India. The cut fruits were impeccably carved in various shapes and designs, each showcasing creativity and skills of the students. Flower arrangements too were a sight too see, each item was unique and meaningful. Nature photography too was an impressive part of the event.
More than 20 City Schools participated in the event namely, Auckland House Girls School — Kaira, Saibeiti, Veronica, Shefali, Vidhi, Vidhushi, Sadhvi; St Thomas — Navya, Arjun, Shruti, Avinabh, Ritikam Gautam; Loreto Convent Tara Hall — Manasvi, Vishudha, Tivisha; Swaran Public School — Kavianjali, Dimple, GSSS Totu — Priyanka, Sonia, Kritika, Megha, Mansi, City Public School — Anjali, Diksha, avantika, Ankit, Pratibha, Aarkiti, JCB New Shimla — Shristi, Ankita, Pratibha, Shallvi, Kritika; Ivy International School – Mehak, Riya, Navya Sunidhi; SPM Model — Divya, Harshita, Nidhi; Monal Public School — Aastha, Meemansa, Gungun, Shreyal, Stuti; DAV New Shimla, DAV Lakkar Bazar, Blue Bells Dhalli, BSN High School, SPM Model School, Savitri Public School, Orchids Arushi School of Hope among others.

Ex-President M R Sharma said, “This time we did not organize a competition, we are celebrating life and hence this was a “Festival of Flowers”, children will get a free hand in showcasing their creativity without any pressure to win a prize. The only competitive part of the event is where they have to identify 10 flowers that have been displayed, and the winner in this category will receive a Sages Running Trophy. All the participants would get certificates and books.”
The results will and announced on 31st May.
