Shimla Nursing College’s 9th Annual Day was organized to celebrate academic excellence and student’s competency in various disciplines, at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla. The theme of the annual function Sahasra – A New Beginning, with a sub-theme – My India, My Pride signified transformation of a nation that instils a sense of pride in the heart of every Indian within the country as well as abroad. A modest attempt to keep the flame alive. The chief guest for the occasion was Professor Sikander Kumar; Vice Chancellor, HPU, and the guest of honour was Dr. Janak Raj, Senior Medical Superintendent, IGMC, who were warmly greeted by the Chairman, Ramesh Chand Sood, MD, Mohit Sood, Veena Sood, Trustee member, SNC, Dr. Kimi Sood, Secretary, Dr Krishna Chauhan, Principal, and Dinesh Chauhan, Administrator, were also present. Other dignitaries present were Dr. Ganga, DDU, Shimla, Usha Mehta, Registrar, HP Nurses Registration Council-cum-Principal, Sister Nivedita College of Nursing IGMC, Sheetal Sharma Vyas, Advocate and other guests from DMER, IGMC, KNH, DDU, HPU, HPNRC, private nursing colleges, private hospitals, other nursing fraternity, students and their respected parents.

Nursing College ShimlaThe day commenced with a welcome dance by the college choir, thereafter the prestigious Oath Ceremony took place, which signifies the ethics and principle of nursing profession. The Pledge was taken by 76 aspiring nurses (40 from B.Sc Nursing, 18 from GNM, 18 from Post Basic B.Sc Nursing) and set the benchmark in the field of nursing. Ritika Soni, Assistant Professor, administered the oath to these 76 new students along with teaching faculties of the college. Dr. Krishna Chauhan, Principal, Shimla Nursing College, presented 9th Annual Report of the college.

The flow of events from thereon was as follows: Garbha, Drill and Bihu dances along with a patriotic skit that left the audience mesmerized. Nursing College ShimlaOver the last period of 10 years, the College has established itself as a prominent nursing college of Himachal. The College set a benchmark to introduce two new nursing courses this year onwards, i.e., M.Sc Nursing – 25 students’ intake and Post Basic B.Sc Nursing with 40 students’ intake apart from already running B.Sc Nursing & GNM Courses.

It is worthwhile to note that every year students of the college excel in the academic sphere by grabbing the top honours in the merit list of the HP University, as this year too five students were among top 10 university rank holders. The administration too provides guaranteed hundred per cent placement opportunities for the students by organizing campus placement facility every year for the pass out batches in various hospitals across the country such as Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi; BLK Hospital Delhi; Columbia Asia Hospital, Ghaziabad & Karol Bag; Narayan Hospital, Jaipur & Katra; ORG Faridabad; Max Hospital; Fortis Hospital; Medanta Hospital, Delhi, among others. The total number of placements for the students of the College has been 640 so far until 2018. Apart from this students are also engaged in other curricular activities like research, attending conferences and workshops, etc. Students also voluntarily participated in various social welfare services. The college is also attached with the NGO, Almighty Blessings, which organizes blood donation and other awareness camps throughout the year in Shimla City.

The Chairman, Ramesh Chand Sood honoured the chief guest and guest of honour, thereafter he enlightened all about his vision to take Shimla Nursing College to high levels of education. He also said that he expect our students to make a powerful impact not only in nursing profession but also in society. He also requested the government of Himachal to extend support towards creating more health facilities in the state and thanked the government for the support that they have provided in the past.

The chief guest,  Dr. Janak stated that nursing profession not only compliments the health care systems, but without the synergy of doctors and nurses it is not possible to make a better change in the health care system. Inspirational words were also spoken by Professor Sikander to encourage the students. They both congratulated the management and students of the College for showing exemplary hard work and commitment towards academic excellence.

Aanchal from GNM 3rd Year was awarded with ‘Pride of the Year’ of Shimla Nursing College and Sonali from B.Sc – Nursing 4th year was awarded ‘Promising Student of the Year’ of Shimla Nursing College.
