Shimla – Governor Inspires IFS Probationers to Preserve Himachal’s Forest

64 probationers of the first batch of the Indian Forest Service called on Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhavan today as part of their Thematic Tour in Shimla. On the occasion, an interactive session was also held with the Governor. While interacting with officers, the Governor said that nature has blessed Himachal Pradesh and during their visit, they would get to experience the dense forest areas in Shimla which would help bring density in other forest areas.

He said, “Our ancestors have defined the importance of forests in such a way that planting one tree is equivalent to having ten children and now you will have the responsibility of conservation & development of these forests.” He said that all the trainees were young and energetic and expressed confidence that they would discharge their responsibilities with full devotion.

He said that environmental change was the biggest challenge of today. Many incidents of extreme weather conditions were noted every day, he added and said that we have to conserve the natural beauty and also conserve the forests and wild animals. He said that the incidents of forest fires were increasing rapidly in the hill states. In such a situation, you could deal with the situation quickly by using modern technology, he added.

The Governor said that there was a need to make efforts for various developmental works as per the needs of the people. He stressed on adopting a cooperative attitude on issues like Nautod and pasture land etc. in a hilly state like Himachal.

Earlier, IFS probationer Anuradha Mishra gave detailed information about the batch profile and syllabus. Anushka Lohia detailed thematic tourism, especially mountain tourism.

On the occasion, trainee officers also shared their experiences. Secretary to the Governor Rajesh Sharma,  senior officers of Himachal Pradesh Forest Department and faculty members accompanying the trainee officers were also present on the occasion.
