A state-level training workshop for field investigators under the 80th round of the National Sample Survey (NSS) was held today in Shimla, jointly organised by the Department of Economics and Statistics and the National Statistical Office (NSO), Field Operations Division, Shimla. The focus of this round is the Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey, set to run for a full year.
The workshop was inaugurated and presided over by Economic Adviser Dr. Vinod Kumar Rana, who stressed the importance of data accuracy and the timely use of Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) tools. He encouraged field staff to remain professional and urged the public to cooperate for the success of the survey.
The collected data will help in preparing the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) and will contribute to India’s ranking in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), through the Ministry of Tourism.
Joint Director Anupam Sharma commended the role of field investigators in supporting data-driven policy planning. Training sessions were led by Deputy Director Suresh Verma and Research Officer Rajeev Kumar, with special sessions conducted by Deputy Director Ajay Kumar Kumawat and Senior Statistical Officer V.C. Negi.
Survey data will be gathered from 144 rural and 56 urban blocks across the state, covering both state and central samples. The department has called for full public cooperation to ensure accurate and meaningful data collection.
