samagamThe week long celebrations by Sri Guru Singh Sabha Shimla commemorating the sacrifices and martyrdom of the ‘Chaar Sahibzaade’ came to an end here today as children took over the reins from their elders and presented a beautiful ceremony ‘Samagam’ — that is, beginning the event with the Rehrass Sahib Paath until the culmination of the programme. The elders were present to only guide the children as the evening progressed by invoking the blessing of their Guru. A mood of pure innocence and pious thoughts set the stage for what followed next. Special invitees for the evening were Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar Siri Akal Takht Sahib; S. Paramjit Singh Khalsa, All India Sikh Student Federation President; S. Diljit Singh Bhindre, Member SGPC; all from Punjab and the well known Film Director Harry Baweja, credited for directing the movie ‘Chaar Sahibjaade’. They all were warmly greeted by Singh Sabha President Jaswinder Singh, and Secretary Narendar Pal Singh.

The evening began with the Rehraas Sahib Paath, followed by Ardaas by Jshleen Kaur; Hukum Nama by Amrit Bani Kaur and then the Kirtan Aarti. Compèrer for the evening, Japneet Kaur, took over the stage as she skillfully and confidently introduced the programme for the evening and invited her peers to recite poems and give discourses on Sikh history and religion. First Jasleen Kaur took the stage and recited a poem followed by a lecture by Jugraaj Singh; a poem titled ‘Saakhi’ was sung by Gurnoor Kaur; Ameek sung ‘Kidar Ja Rahsi Ae Singa’, while Gurleen sung ‘Daadi Maa Samajhavan Lagi’; a lecture was given Gurleen Kaur on ‘The Power of You’, followed by a poem titled ‘Tenu Panth Da Vaali’ by Jasjyot Singh and an interesting Vartalaap by Divnoor and Manpreet Kaur. Three to four year olds kids namely, Hargun, Anahat, Jazleen, and Ajooni recited the names 10 Gurus, enlightening all present of their learning and knowledge.

Samagam (9)The highlight of the evening was a special classroom conducted by children, as Class Teacher Bavreen Kaur gave a history lesson to her students — Bhavjyot, Mahideep, Aahar, Bani, Prabnoor, Ishmeet, Parmeet and others — on Sikhism and religious norms followed by each and every Sikh. The Chor Sahib Seva was also performed by the little ones during the whole evening.

President Jaswinder Singh informed that today’s evening and the programme is all planned by children as well as conducted by them. He added, “This Samagam is our way of handing over the reins to our children, as they are our future torch bearers. The paath, kirtan and aardas, everything is performed by children as this is the next step of their learning. It is our duty as elders to teach the kids about our religion and various ceremonies conducted on a daily basis”. A word of appreciation is must for all the teachers, namely Poonam, Manpreet, Jasbir and Jaspreet, who have all done a commendable job in preparing the event and guiding our children towards the right path.

The special invitees too were amazed to see such beautiful performances. They were unanimous in appreciating the efforts of the organizers and lauded the presentations given by all children. They said that have seen many programmes but this one was unique because everything was done by children and they further requested that the team of organizers to bring this group to visit various schools and Gurudwaras in Punjab where people needed awareness.
