The Himachal Pradesh State Food Commission, under the leadership of Chairman Dr. S.P. Katyal, carried out a comprehensive inspection at the Government Primary School, Government Middle School, and the Fair Price Shop in the Ruldu Bhatta area of Shimla.
The inspection focused on the mid-day meal program, food quality, hygiene standards, and adherence to cooking safety protocols in the schools. Dr. Katyal personally reviewed the cooking areas, interacted with students, parents, and mid-day meal workers, and examined school records to ensure compliance with food safety norms.
Several discrepancies were observed during the inspection, for which the school authorities were advised to take immediate corrective actions. Key directives included improving food quality, ensuring the presence of at least one parent during meal distribution, maintaining proper hygiene in food preparation, and providing safe drinking water to the children.
Additionally, local councillor Saroj Thakur was called on-site and urged to address garbage dumping and unhygienic conditions near the school premises. She was also encouraged to participate actively in School Management Committee (SMC) meetings to help resolve issues related to cleanliness and prevent health risks for students.
The Commission emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for schoolchildren.
