The Himachal Pradesh government is undertaking a comprehensive transformation of the state’s education system, placing quality education at the heart of its development agenda. Grounded in the belief that education is the cornerstone of progress, the state has rolled out a range of reforms to provide modern, inclusive, and future-ready learning to every child.

From upgrading infrastructure to integrating digital tools and introducing cutting-edge subjects, the government is aligning its efforts with the New Education Policy. Subjects such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science are now being introduced in government schools, equipping students with skills essential for the 21st-century workforce.

English-medium instruction from Class 1 has been implemented across all government schools, strengthening foundational learning. These initiatives are already delivering measurable results—Himachal Pradesh climbed from 21st to 5th place in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2025, and the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2025 ranked the state’s students highest in reading proficiency nationwide.

To foster holistic development, Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools are being established in every Assembly Constituency, equipped with smart classrooms, digital labs, libraries, and sports facilities. Construction is underway in Kangra and Hamirpur districts.

Additionally, over 850 institutions have been declared Schools of Excellence, including 500 primary, 100 high, 200 senior secondary schools, 48 degree colleges, and two Sanskrit colleges. These are being equipped with well-trained teachers, modern infrastructure, and academic resources.

Teacher empowerment is a key priority. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the state has partnered with Singapore’s Principals Academy to offer global training for educators. In 2024–25, 334 teachers and 50 top-performing students visited Singapore, while 342 others undertook educational tours within India. Over 10,500 Class 10 and 12 students also received free tablets to support digital learning.

To support students in pursuing higher education, the Dr. Y.S. Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojana offers education loans up to ₹20 lakh at just 1% interest for studies in India or abroad. A Cluster System has also been introduced to allow nearby schools to share facilities like labs, playgrounds, and libraries.

Recognizing the link between education and well-being, the Mukhyamantri Baal Poshtik Ahaar Yojana is providing nutritious meals to 5.35 lakh students across more than 15,000 schools, backed by a ₹12.75 crore budget.

Skill development is another core focus. Technical institutes are offering vocational training in high-demand fields such as AI, Machine Learning, Drone Technology, and Data Science. Smart classrooms and e-learning platforms have expanded rapidly, and teacher attendance is now digitally tracked via the Vidya Samiksha Kendra. Daily news reading in morning assemblies is also being practiced to enhance general knowledge and communication skills.

With these forward-looking initiatives, Himachal Pradesh is fast becoming a national model for educational reform. The state’s commitment to quality, innovation, and inclusivity in education is paving the way for a future where every child is empowered to succeed.
