As the monsoon season approaches, the state government has stepped up its preparedness to ensure dam safety, with a high-level virtual review meeting held today under the chairmanship of D.C. Rana, Director-cum-Special Secretary (Revenue & Disaster Management).

The meeting focused on assessing dam safety measures across the state, in compliance with the Dam Safety Act, 2021, and the guidelines of the Central Water Commission (CWC). Discussions centered around the maintenance of dam infrastructure, regular updates to Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), and improving coordination among departments for swift response during extreme weather conditions.

Key safety components such as early warning systems—including hooters and voice alerts—dam break analysis, and the establishment of Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) were reviewed. The availability of I-SAT phones with docking stations at dam control rooms and barrages was also discussed to ensure seamless communication during emergencies.

Emphasizing the importance of real-time monitoring and alert systems, D.C. Rana underscored the government’s commitment to disaster risk reduction and the protection of lives and property. He instructed dam authorities to remain vigilant during the monsoon season and to strictly adhere to all safety protocols.

The meeting included detailed presentations on the current structural and operational safety status of major dams. Senior officials from 23 dam authorities and the Department of Energy participated virtually in the session.
