Students Oath Ceremony held at Portmore School

With the beginning of the new academic session at the Senior Secondary High Girls School, Portmore, Shimla, the newly elected student body participated in the oath ceremony in the presence of the chief guest, former minister Smt Pratibha Singh. The event began with the lighting of the lamp and all the school children sung Vande Matram to welcome the chief guest. After this the girls were presented with various badges.

Avruti Chauhan was elected as the Head Girl of the school, while Simran Sisodia received the post of Vice Head Girl. Tanuja Chauhan was nominated as the Sports Captain and assisting her as Vice Captain was Swati Damseth. Priya was nominated as the Monitor and Punam as the Vice Monitor; Samiksha Vashisht was appointed as the Activities In-charge, while Kajal Thakur became the Vice Activities In-charge. Anisha Negi was elected as the Band Captain. Apart from this various house captain and vice captains were also elected.

  • Aruna Asif Ali House: Kamana Diksha Captain and Anjali Gupta Vice Captain; Junior Section – Shikha Chauhan Captain and Madhu as Vice Captain.
  • Kalpana Chawla House: Parul Verma Captain and Nitika Kaushal Vice Captain; Junior Section – Ambika Captain and Priyanka Vice Captain.
  • Laxmi Bai House: Pragya Captain and Akriti Vice Captain; Junior Section – Naunika Chauhan Captain and Priya Rana Vice Captain.
  • Mother Teresa House: Shivani Dogra Captain and Vaishnavi Vice Captain; Junior Section – Lalita Negi Captain and Sheetal Shemraik Vice Captain.

Chief guest Pratiha Singh expressed great satisfaction and happiness for being present during the occasion. She said, “This school is a premier institute for girls in Shimla and students from this school are now well placed in reputed institutes and working in prominent positions. They have also been proud to be associated with this school. Today both girls and boys receive equal opportunities and they are not differentiated based on gender”. She further added that the government was also providing free education facility to girls and things are improving for the better. By educating one child we can educate a whole family. A female play a pivotal role in the upbringing of her family and cultivates good habits among all. Smt Singh also said that steps were being taken to provide educational facilities in the interior areas of Himachal as well.

Principal Nisha Bhaluni and other staff members too were present to welcome the chief guest. Others present were President, SMC Mikar Kalta; Anita Sud, Chief Manager, UCO; Brij Mohini Sood and staff members to encourage and congratulate all the students.
