CM Sukhu on Tuesday virtually inaugurated the new office of the Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Backward Classes in Dharamshala, marking the relocation of the Commission’s chairman’s office from Shimla to Kangra district.
Addressing the event from the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the move would make the Commission’s services more accessible to people, particularly the large Other Backward Classes (OBC) population in Kangra and neighbouring districts. He said relocating the office would save residents the time and expense of travelling to Shimla.
Sukhu also directed the Kangra Deputy Commissioner to expedite the establishment of the Himachal Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) office in Dharamshala.
Highlighting the government’s focus on decentralising administration, the Chief Minister said Kangra, which has been declared the state’s tourism capital, is gradually emerging as a major administrative hub. He added that several government offices have already been shifted to the district and more departments are likely to follow.
The Chief Minister also said the state government is pursuing OBC status for the Dodra Kwar area of Shimla district and Scheduled Tribe status for the Bara Bhangal area of Kangra district.
Chairman of the State Commission for Backward Classes, Prabhat Chaudhary, welcomed the decision, saying the new office would improve public access to the Commission and benefit OBC communities across Kangra and adjoining districts.
