CM Sukhu today reviewed the progress of the ₹145 crore utility duct project being constructed along the approximately 7-kilometer stretch from Chotta Shimla to Willies Park. He instructed officials of the Public Works Department to expedite the work and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
The Chief Minister informed that the construction work between Chotta Shimla and Oak Over is almost complete and directed the concerned authorities to ensure it is fully finished in the next 15 days. He also stressed on completing road tarring and streetlight installation without delay.
Highlighting Shimla’s importance as both the state capital and a prime tourist destination, the Chief Minister said that removing overhead cables and improving city aesthetics would significantly enhance the visitor experience. “A cleaner, more organized Shimla will attract more tourists and preserve the city’s charm,” he said.
The duct network is being developed to carry electric, water, and other utility lines underground, thereby decongesting the cityscape. The network will extend from Chotta Shimla to Willies Park, cover key points such as the Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, Oak Over, and stretch from Sher-e-Punjab through Lower Bazaar to CTO.
