In a major push to upgrade healthcare infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, CM Sukhu announced plans to transform Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda into the State’s premier healthcare institution within a year.

The Chief Minister, during a detailed review meeting on Monday evening with Heads of Departments and faculty members of RPGMC Tanda, emphasized eliminating delays in patient care, particularly for surgeries and diagnostic procedures. The marathon meeting lasted over three hours and focused on staffing needs, infrastructure upgrades, and integration of advanced medical technology.

CM Sukhu announced that the State Government will invest ₹1,730 crore to equip all government medical colleges, including Tanda, with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge medical equipment. “This initiative aims to make high-quality treatment accessible within the State so that patients no longer need to seek expensive care in metro cities,” he said.

Highlighting key upcoming initiatives at RPGMC Tanda, the CM said new departments will be created, high-end equipment will be installed, and vacant posts for nurses, technicians, and paramedical staff will be filled. The number of General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) seats will also be increased, and B.Sc. Nursing courses will be introduced.

He noted that similar consultations had been held at IGMC Shimla, and assured that Tanda Medical College will receive the same level of modernization and administrative focus.

The CM drew parallels with the State’s recent success in education reforms, stating, “Just as Himachal jumped from 21st to 5th place in the NAS-2025 education survey, we are now driving similar reforms in healthcare, and the results will be visible soon.”

Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil shared that robotic surgery facilities are being expanded. “A robotic surgery unit is already operational in Chamiyana Hospital and Tanda will soon be equipped with one as well,” he said.

Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, R.S. Bali, lauded the CM’s leadership, citing successful open-heart surgeries and kidney transplants conducted at Tanda—previously only available in major hospitals in Delhi.

Medical College faculty members expressed gratitude to the CM for prioritizing healthcare infrastructure and supporting their demand for robotic surgery systems.

The review meeting saw the presence of several dignitaries including Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board Bhawani Singh Pathania, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, and several MLAs, former MLAs, and senior officials from the Health Department.
