In a major step towards promoting indigenous healthcare innovation, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has extended support to Aodh Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad for the development of an advanced Antibiotic Nebulization Suspension (AONEUM-04). This innovation targets effective treatment of pneumonia and the growing global concern of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Unlike conventional oral or intravenous antibiotic therapies, AONEUM-04 delivers the drug directly to the lungs through nebulization. This targeted approach ensures higher drug concentration at the infection site while reducing side effects. The formulation is designed for sustained release, mucoadhesion, and biofilm disruption, making it more effective and minimizing the chances of antibiotic resistance—critical for countries like India, where pneumonia is a leading cause of child mortality.
The product has successfully completed pre-clinical trials and is now preparing for Phase III clinical trials, paving the way for commercialization. The innovation is expected to enhance treatment compliance, reduce healthcare costs, and provide a scalable solution for both Indian and global markets.
Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, stating that the project is a significant step forward in tackling two major healthcare challenges: pneumonia and AMR. He emphasized that supporting indigenous startups aligns with India’s vision of becoming a global leader in affordable and accessible healthcare technologies.
The promoters of Aodh Lifesciences expressed confidence that with TDB’s support, AONEUM-04 would reach the market soon as a patient-centric, cost-effective antibiotic therapy. They reiterated their mission to make quality healthcare solutions accessible to the masses and contribute to the global fight against antimicrobial resistance.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to fostering Atmanirbhar Bharat and advancing towards a Viksit Bharat, where innovation drives inclusive and sustainable development in the healthcare sector.
