Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Jairam Thakur sharply criticized the current government in the Assembly over statements related to the Him Care health scheme. Speaking after CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu acknowledged inaccuracies regarding alleged irregularities in the program, Thakur demanded that the Chief Minister apologize not only to the Assembly but to the people of Himachal Pradesh.
Thakur highlighted that Him Care has provided free treatment to millions and that attempts to malign the scheme are unacceptable. He noted that during his government, the average per-patient expenditure was ₹11,000, compared to ₹14,000 under the current administration, emphasizing efficiency under his tenure. He alleged that mismanagement and favoritism in drug supply contracts are increasing costs unnecessarily.
The former CM also raised concerns about the formation of the Medical Service Corporation and questioned why purchases were not made at state contract rates, suggesting possible financial benefits to select individuals. Thakur urged a comprehensive investigation into Him Care by a sitting High Court judge, covering the entire duration of the program rather than only the current government’s tenure.
On another note, Thakur welcomed the reduction in import duties on petroleum products by the central government, stating that it would benefit the public by lowering fuel prices. He criticized the state government for attempting to increase diesel prices through local levies, calling it a burden on farmers, transporters, and consumers.
Thakur warned that political misuse of Him Care and misleading narratives would not succeed, asserting that transparency, accountability, and proper management are essential for the scheme’s credibility and public trust.
