Keekli Reporter, 11th October, 2013, Shimla
Edwardians boomed with talent as the fiery and dazzling performances by the students of St Edwards School, Shimla was quite classic and exuberant. Each and every dance and act was well conceived and brilliantly executed, which clearly showed the hard work put in by the students and their teachers. The Chief Guest for the evening Major General Sukesh Rakshit, Doctrine Branch, Headquarters Army Training Command, Shimla, was received by the school Principal, Rev Fr John Bosco, Dr Kailash Sud and the Vice Principal Rev Fr Naveen Rodriguez.
The Annual Day celebrations began with the unfurling of the flag by the Chief Guest followed by Guard of Honour and March Past by the students. Soon after the School Report was read by H Oberoi, who apprised the Chief Guest and the parents that, the school had been awarded 12th position amongst the Boy’s Day Schools in India by the “Education World’s Indian School Rankings, 2013”. The ranking is based on 14 parameters like academic reputation, staff competency, co-curricular and sports activities, teacher welfare and development, infrastructural provision and so on. The results of Class XII and X were equally commendable. Mayank Plaha of Medical Stream topped in Shimla with 96 per cent marks.
Another remarkable feat achieved by the students was a film made by Kartik Thakur, Shivam Tandon, Kaustubh Shamsherry and Parshav Chauhan on ‘Youth and their Problems’, which was adjudged as the best film, best direction and best cinematography at the Youth Film Festival. The NCC Cadets stood tall and proud as their achievements and awards were enumerated during the School Report.
In all spheres, be it academics, sports or creativity, students of St Edwards School excelled in almost all the events they participated. Whether it was the creative writing competition, quiz contests, Rotary Mid Town Shimla’s Manthan contest, Karate competitions, athletic meets or the football and basketball matches, the School children were winners in all spheres. The brawn and brain power was equally witnessed among the students through the events since the beginning of the 2013 academic session.
The dais was thereafter taken over by Kartik Thakur and Aryaman Sood, who compered Mosaic 2013, a reflection of the year round activities occurring in the school. Mosaic, a concept of Holistic Growth — a philosophy based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning and purpose in life through connections to community, to the natural world and to humanitarian values. The event began with the Abhinandan (welcome song) followed by the Mystic Rhythm, a Yoga display by the young master, emphasizing its benefits and the discipline it brings in one’s life for attaining goals, and then of course the ultimate goal of achieving Moksha.
The Synchronized Symphony display clearly showed the coordination and dexterity of the kids and the formations were perfectly executed. The Martial Mumba or the Karate exhibit by the little champs showed few techniques on self-defense and the power of a smash as tiles were broken like a piece of cake. Nothing seemed to suppress the spirited zeal of the students as they jumped through the ring of fire.
The energetic, lively and bouncy Zumba Tonic was an inspirational display showcasing that a healthy body can help you achieve everything. The real stealer was the theme based dance drama titled O Ree Chiriya, which had a clear message of how ill-treated our mother and sisters are and despite all their efforts to do the right thing they are blamed at every step. Even though we worship little girls during our religious events but at the same time we take extreme steps of abusing them, killing them or much worse shaming them. An enlightening and heart-rending performance by all the boys!!!
Gymnastics, a discipline that gives strength, flexibility, power, agility, coordination, grace and balance was skillfully presented by the students through the statement Acrobatically Yours. The Himachali Retsina or the Natti invited us into the state of Himachal, as the diversity of the state was very elegantly and gracefully presented. And last and the highlight of the event was the Ballistic Whirl, which brought the senior section to the ground with their acrobatic and energetic grooves and moves. The entire display was based on different themes and songs — about fun and entertainment; harmony and peace; enjoyment and gratification.
The evening ended with elated and jubilant cheers from all prize winners!!!
