World Malaria Day, observed every year on 25 April, is a global health awareness day established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to highlight the ongoing fight against malaria, a life-threatening disease caused by parasites transmitted through the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. The day aims to raise awareness about prevention, control, and elimination of malaria, especially in vulnerable regions such as parts of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It also recognises global efforts in improving access to mosquito nets, diagnostic tools, and effective treatment, while encouraging governments, health organisations, and communities to strengthen action against the disease and work towards its eventual eradication.
