February 1 is observed as Indian Coast Guard Day, marking the establishment of the Indian Coast Guard in 1977. The day recognises the vital role played by the force in safeguarding India’s maritime borders, protecting coastal and offshore assets, conducting search and rescue operations, preventing smuggling and illegal activities, and preserving the marine environment. The occasion highlights the Coast Guard’s contribution to national security and its commitment to ensuring safety and sovereignty in India’s vast maritime domain.
